The Daily Valdemar No. 8: March 20
Valdemar Andersen, Full-page for the satirical magazine Klods-Hans, September 10, 1905. |
She is literally bubbling before us. The lace of her upper garment and her dainty fingers, all is flowing outwards and upwards with her singing; her hair opening to the highest notes flowing above the frame. She is by then longer physical substance to be held in.
Her skirt is solid in color and shape, on the other hand, while the embroidered roses are climbing upwards setting her exuberance in motion. Her pianist is her opposite; taking off as a sliced shadow below until he becomes the solidity to her lightness. There is no need to include the grand piano; he incorporates the massive shadow behind her onstage. His hair makes the same swirl at the tip; he is the accompaniment to her singing after all. The two of them would be the inspiration for a poster Valdemar Andersen did two years later, in which the pianist was but a pair of hands at the keyboard. Here the arch of his hand is his instrument.
We do not know her name. The text underneath speaks only of her sense of theatricality and great heart. We shall be looking at the poster the pair gave inspiration to another day. It would be a pity to compare the two against each other.
