Just The Two Lines

"In the center: It's true! It's true!

Voice to the left: No."

And that is why I love transcripts of parliamentary debates.

The passion, the shouting and the give-and-takes are all there. When we are lucky, the shout outs in the room in support or protest against the speaker are there too as in the present exchange.

In this case a 200-year old exchange on the (resulting) 1835-censorship on printed images in France. The noise comes from those in favour of imposing censorship against those pesky cartoons.

In just those two lines we have the full pro-and-con argumentation on the alleged danger of cartooning.

Today as in 1835.
